From Toronto's Andrea Ramolo's plaintive and emotionally resonant opening track, Owl Eyes,  to Ottawa's The Wild Vines' closing cut, the rollicking country song Worries in My Pocket, She's Listening is packed with an hour of music from  some of Canada's best female artists.

She's Listening is a compilation CD with tracks from female artists across Canada, with proceeds going to Ovarian Cancer Canada (www.ovariancanada.org) and the National Capital Region Walk of Hope. Artists contributing to the CD include Jenny MacDonald from Antigonish, NS; Angie Arsenault from Montreal, QC;; Sarah McClurg and the Wild Vines from Ottawa, ON; Kristine St-Pierre from Ottawa, ON; Tessa Duc from Ottawa, ON; Deanna Wells and Trina Nadeau from Ophelia Syndrome in Hamilton, ON; Marta Pacek from Toronto, ON; Andrea Ramolo from Toronto, ON; Heather Hill and Kat Leonard from Toronto, ON;  Nicole Coward from Toronto, ON, MEA from Ottawa, Angela Saini from Toronto, and Joy Phillips from Toronto.

These artists represent a wide range of musical styles and backgrounds, but each has a commitment to the battle against ovarian cancer which is the most fatal women’s cancer.  In Canada, 17,000 women are currently living with ovarian cancer. There is no screening test for the disease, the symptoms can be vague and often the disease is diagnosed in its late stages resulting in 5 year survival rates of less than 30%. However, when discovered early, the survival rate is as high as 90%. Education and awareness is the best defense against ovarian cancer. Some of the artists wrote songs especially for the CD, including Heather Hill and Kat Leonard (Come by Here) and Tessa Duc (He Says).

Over the last year, there have been a number of She's Listening concerts and events including most recently a concert on May 31 at Station Quatre Saisons in Hammond, ON with Kristine St-Pierre, She's Listening Toronto II on June 4 at the Cameron House in Toronto with Heather Hill, Kat Leonard, Melanie Peterson, Angela Saini and Jessica Speziale, and a series of information sessions at Curves fitness studios in Ottawa with Lyne Shackleton and Kristine St-Pierre. A show at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, QC is in the works for July, 2014.

She's Listening will become a crucial weapon in the arsenal of the battle against ovarian cancer. Funds raised will go to Ovarian Cancer Canada and the National Capital Region Walk of Hope in September 2014. The CD was released at the Walk of Hope in Ottawa in 2013. This project is being managed by Canada Parties and Tech2Tel on behalf of Ovarian Cancer Canada. We have updates on events for She's Listening! This summer sees two great shows in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada, at the famed Black Sheep Inn Sunday July 20 with Tessa Duc, Angela Saini and Kristine St-Pierre, and an amazing outdoor event, ShackStock in Clatence Creek outside Rockland. You can check out the Facebook event page for She's Listening III at https://www.facebook.com/events/1444482435801248/.

Over the past few months, Lyne Shackleton and Kristine St-Pierre organized and performed respectively at a number of Curves studio locations throughout Ottawa to bring awareness of ovarian cancer, and on May 7, Lyne Shackleton organized a fundraising evening at the Boston Pizza in Rockland, where a portion of the proceeds were donated to Ovarian Cancer Canada. As well, Kristine performed May 31 at Station Quatre Saisons in Hammond, ON in a magical evening.

We had a great show in support of OCC at the Cameron House in Toronto June 4 with Heather Hill, Kat Leonard, Melanie Peterson, Angela Saini and Jessica Speziale, and are planning an upcoming show show at the Black Sheep in the works for July. The She's Listening Toronto I show was an amazing evening July 20, 2013 at The Central in Toronto, with performances by Marta Pacek, Nicole Coward, Heather Hill and Deanna Wells and Trina Nadeau from Ophelia Syndrome.  All very exciting and there's more coming up! She's Listening began as a fundraising concert December 7, 2012 at Bassline Station in Ottawa with the Four Winds and Kelly Sloan. The Winds and Kelly took up the cause, and the Winds became a driving force behind keeping the momentum going and turning a single benefit into an ongoing series of concerts and CD.  A second concert took place April 21 at Luneta Bistro with Angie and Louise Arsenault, Kristine St-Pierre, Sophia Radisch and Meg La Grand.  It was here that the CD project was born.

She's Listening will become a crucial weapon in the arsenal of the battle against ovarian cancer. Funds raised will go to Ovarian Cancer Canada and the National Capital Region Walk of Hope (September 8, 2013). The CD was released at the National Capital  Region Walk of Hope in Ottawa September 8, 2013 and is available in selected stores such as Compact Disc and CD Warehouse in Ottawa.

We launched the CD Wednesday August 28, 2013 at Westgate Shopping Centre with Tessa Duc performing.

We want to thank all the artists on the CD as well as Meg La Grand, the Four Winds, and Kelly Sloan who generously donated their time for the She's Listening shows in December 2012 and April 2013.
